Last Weekend

Last weekend was, well, our last weekend.

In Nome.

It was actually quite a fun weekend. As many of you probably know it was solstice this past weekend - the longest day of the year. We missed a lot of the celebration regarding this momentous day because we're:
i) lazy and
b) uninformed.

We missed the Polar Bear swim. Run into the freezing cold water? Not for me. I don't even go in warm water. (Side note: some guy who took part in the swim stayed in the water quite a while (however long that is) and promptly had a "mild" heart attack the next day (?) Related? I can tell you I'm not going to put it to the test!)

We also missed the parade, the bank robbery (!? - It wasn't a real robbery), and the bonfire. We didn't miss the 21 plus hours of sunlight or the Folk fest though.

We spent about 5 hours on Saturday down at the Elementary school listening to some very talented people. For a small town a lot of the people here sure can sing/play music. In addition to the locals The Stairwell Sisters played a set. They were a lot of fun and very good.

We bought a couple of their CDs.

On the way back to the apartment we happened across the Subway (the only chain restaurant in town) and decided we might as well eat there at least once during our months in Nome. So we did.

Now the Subway also serves as the town movie theater. Zohan was to start right as we walked in so we bought a Sandwich and movie tickets. It actually was a nice theater. We are kicking ourselves for not doing it more often.

But we're lazy so we're not kicking ourselves too hard.

Zohan was funny.

Here are some pictures from our day. I'll note the time of the outdoor ones.

The Grande Finale of the Folk Fest (many of the musicians from throughout the day singing a "goodnight" song)

Very cool - glad you caught some of the festivities. Safe trip home and then to Romania! We are planning to be in Orlando and/or Tennessee in October - we will come to Atlanta if you are there or you can come see us.

Love you. Mum

that's so sweet. It definitely wasn't that bright here at midnight, but that's so cool!

We watched the goonies in the park. It was fun!
