No insurance for Swell.
And we're not talking about good insurance. We're talking about $10,000 deductible catastrophic insurance.
Options:
1) New Zealand for a year or longer (if they need/want us)
2) One of us gets employment at a company that offers group insurance
3) Cross our fingers that she never gets sick/pregnant/injured
4) Emigrate to Canada
5) ???
As a celebration of her status as an insurance risk and our upcoming anniversary we're going to Florida for a week. We leave tomorrow.
It was supposed to be solely an anniversary trip but someone (who shall remain nameless) invited a parent.
It will still be fun.

Sorry about the insurance! The system down there sucks... Of your options I vote for #4 although #1 sounds like fun.
Tell us about your nephews visit.
Love you,
I've been meaning to make a post about our last couple of weeks but didn't get around to it. I've been busy doing nothing.
I told Cameron that I wouldn't be writing about his time here. If he wants it shared he can share it. Suffice it to say we had a lot of fun and it was great to spend a week with him.
I hear you missed your brother's birthday because you had to buy pancreas.
You're a freak.
Any word from New Zealand at all? I think they were checking out references last I heard?
I'm going out for supper with Cameron tomorrow night for the stories of his trip.
Re the medical insurance - what about that program I sent you the info on from the Scrantons. I don't remember what you said about that.
Where are you staying in Florida?
Love Mum
Ma,
Haven't sent our references to New Zealand yet. We were unsure if we even wanted to try. Decided to give it a whirl. There may not even be a job available. We've just now asked people if they would be a reference.
Enjoy your dinner.
We looked into that program and are unsure of its utility for us. Its interesting and if we stay in the US we will probably do it. We've heard other "goodish" things about if from others.
We're going to Orlando and staying in two different places at Universal. I worked three days last week and we're going to go and spend that money (we also just wrote two gigantic tax cheques - due tomorrow - so we're rewarding ourselves for having the foresight to save that money - as well as a bunch of money we put into an IRA (mutual funds)).
So glad to see a post from you! I would vote #1! New Zeeland, yes! The people are friedly, the cheese is yummy and the relief is spectacular! If I could, I would go there next week!
Sorry to hear that the med insurance got denied. To bad. I am sure there are other ways of getting it. The only other way I know of is very, very expensive.
Orlando sounds like fun! I have never been to Orlando, so excuse my 'blondness'. How far is Universal from Epcot?
Happy 6th Anniversary!!!!
Crina,
You'll have to explain your insurance idea. We applied for insurance that really required us to pay out of pocket for everything but a catastrophic accident/illness. We would be out of pocket the first $10,000. They told us "No way". When we further inquired about other possibilities they said "We are unable to offer any products to you." When we asked our insurance broker if he had any further ideas he said "I cannot be of assistance to you."
Universal Studios is just a few miles from Disney World. Disney world is NOT a relaxing vacation so we won't be going there this time.
Thank you for your anniversary wishes. As you remember it isn't until May but we'll be in Nome then.
Have you guys found your Vegas hotel yet? Where are you staying?
Yes, that is the one my parents have, catastrophic accident/illness. Sorry about that, I am sure it is frustrating! Honestly, sometimes I just don't quite understand the Health System in US. It is one that provides some of the best medical care in the world....that is only if you have good insurance or if you are famous. If one has pre existing condition, or a cheap med care, Good Luck buddy!
I saw a Modern Marvels on Epcot and I want to go there. I can totally see how DW keeps one busy!
We are staying in Vegas at New York-New York. Three nights. We heard of the Rainforest Cafe and of the Harley Davidson Cafe. We have also heard of the Coyote Ugly Bar. Somebody NEW (very new) at church suggested it to us. I think we are going to put that on the wayside because we have a baby. If I wouldn't have a baby I could totally dance on the bar and be druk, cuz I just so do that all that often.
Crina
Sorry about the insurance. That's sucky.
Crina - I thought of you last night at our early Cinco de Mayo party and the bucket 'o margarita mix we had for your bachelorette party (that we only skimmed the surface of).
Oh, and wallet mouth - you must not be a germ freak if you are sticking money in your mouth. Yelch.
Just to update on the insurance: I'm trying to get Cobra (extension of my previous health insurance from my employer) but it's more expensive (about $350/mo) and I have to pay retroactive for the last few months! My last employer actually has to start this process; I've emailed them, but they are not always on top of things like this, so it may take a while!
Swell
Dad talked to Dr. Bleviss last week and was told that this is the time to get into Alberta re optometry - some policy changes from above and the direction is optometrists will start taking on more responsiblity for eye care - you'll have to talk to dad to find out the details. Hope you are well.
